Opening remarks by Hon ‘able vice Chancellor Dr.M.B.Chetti
A webinar on “Innovative Approaches in Seed Quality Maintenance for Successful Entrepreneurship” was convened by Dr. J. S. Hilli, Special officer (Seeds) under NAHEP, IDP at UAS, Dharwad on 07.08.2020. The webinar was to be inaugurated by Shri. B. C. Patil, Hon’ble Minister of Agriculture, Government of Karnataka, however, due to unavoidable circumstances, the event was inaugurated by Dr. M. B. Chetti, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, UAS, Dharwad. Hon’ble Vice Chancellor welcomed all the delegates, resource persons and participants for the event. He briefed the inaugural address on behalf of Hon’ble Minister of Agriculture, Government of Karnataka and emphasized the need for quality seed and its maintenance in sustainable agriculture and avenues for the youths to have successful entrepreneurship in seed industry.
Dr. Keshavalu, Director, TSSOCA, Government of Telangana orated on national and global seed regulations and highlighted the need for quality in seed export. Dr. Rajendra Prasad, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, UAS, Bangalore highlighted the comprehensive advancements made in field of seed quality assessment. Dr. Vilas, Tonapi, Director, ICAR-IIMR, Hyderabad deliberated on issues related to IPR, Plant Breeder rights, community ownership and related aspects of ownership in Research and Development organizations. Dr. D. K. Yadav, Hon’ble ADG (Seeds), ICAR, New Delhi narrated on distribution of various class of seeds viz., Breeder, Foundation and Certified seeds in respect of national and state requirements. Dr. Vijayakumar, A. G., moderated the webinar and Dr. N. K. Biradarpatil, Professor (SST) narrated the summary of deliberations in brief. The convener of the webinar presented the vote of thanks.
