Tree Planting Programme was celebrated on 6 October, 2020 under Institutional Developmental Plan at High-Tech Horticulture Unit, Saidapur Farm, UAS, Dharwad under Green Initiative. The programme was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Dr. M. B. Chetti. All University staff and IDP members were invited for the function.
During the programme all officers and IDP members planted a total of 700 the guava samplings on two acres of land that includes curry leaf, drumsticks and guava. Similarly the ornamental and fruit plants like Plumeria pudica, bougainvillea and custard apple were also planted all along the VIP road reaching to the International guest house. After plantation Hon’ble Vice Chancellor expressed that planting fruit trees not only reduce carbon prints but also provide regular income to farmers. Also increasing the green cover by planting trees is best way to address the global climate change impacts which result in accumulation of greenhouse gas and affect agriculture, further endangering foods security. Further he said green initiatives are the need of hour to avoid these climatic changes. On the occasion, the Hi-Tech Vegetable Production System was also inaugurated by the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor which was established for training under start-ups in Horticulture under IDP. Dr. M. S. Biradar and Dr. Jyoti V. Vastrad were organised the programme.
