A three days’ ‘Entrepreneurship Development Workshop’ was organized at College of Agriculture, Vijayapur from 9th to 11th January, 2020 with aim of bringing awareness about entrepreneurship and highlighting opportunities. The idea was to motivate/incline the students on various aspects of entrepreneurship development which would encourage them to take up entrepreneurial qualities after their graduation. It was mainly focused on II and III year B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture students. The workshop was conducted in two different batches of 125 students each. The event began with registration by the students. After registration, as outlined in the programme sheet (enclosed) the core programme was kicked off. At the out set, Dr.G.B.Tuppad, Research Associate, ICAR-NAHEP-IDP-UASD, College of Agriculture, Vijayapur extended a warm welcome to the resource person’s viz., Mr. Mahesh Hegde, Founder, Native Circle, Bangalore, Ms. Swayamprabha, Director, Sealink, Mr. Ravi Kumar and Ms. Maitreyi Hegde, Director, Native Circle and introduced them to the participants. Further, he welcomed other dignitaries of the day, Dr. S. B. Kalaghatagi, Dean (Agri), Dr. H. B. Babalad, Associate Director of Research, RARS, Vijayapur, Dr. R. B. Belli, Associate Director of Extension, RARS, Vijayapur, students, faculty and IDP supporting staff.
Dr.G.B.Tuppad, gave a brief overview of the Entrepreneurship Development Workshop, and highlighted the importance and benefits to the students. After this, the workshop was inaugurated by guests and students by watering a sapling. Dr. S. B. Kalaghatagi, President of the inaugural programme, in his presidential remarks, suggested students to take active participation in the workshop and discuss with resource persons regarding their ideas to make them more elegant and capable for becoming business models.
The workshop session began with the resource person, Mr. Mahesh Hegde, in his session on Introduction to Entrepreneurship Development, he explained entrepreneurial qualities and how to be a entrepreneur. He spoke on the Value preposition/ market fit to the present corporate scenario, he also explained about the RACI model, ie., RACI model is a straightforward tool used for identifying roles and responsibilities and avoiding confusion over those roles and responsibilities.
Ms. Swayamprabha, presented on the “Idea generation to boost innovation and entrepreneurship development”. She explained the importance of idea generation to the students, and the ideas are necessary for making any kind of improvement. She agreed the fact that, sometimes it would be difficult to come up with high quality ideas. It’s not unusual to get stuck in our old habits and routines when we are supposed to be creating something new one and she told that we have to think more innovatively to get ideas before we start any start ups. There was hands on practical session on entrepreneurship development.
Importance of SWOT analysis, JOHARI window was dealt by Mr. Ravi Kumar. He explained about the SWOT analysis with very elegant examples. SWOT analysis is a technique for assessing these four aspects of the business, and also he explained technique that helps people better understand their relationship with themselves and others, he also presented the NLP (Neuro linguistic programming) and communication with NLP tools i.e., the way our mind works and explained about the customer and market analysis of the business environment.
Ms. Maitreyi Hegde, conducted a session on goal setting and envisioning future, wherein she highlighted about setting goals and how it helps to trigger new behaviors, which in turn guide one’s focus and helps to sustain in the life. She taught on Business Model Canvas (BMC model) which is a strategic management and lean startup template for developing new or documenting existing business models. It is a visual chart with elements describing a firms or product’s value proposition, infrastructure, customers, and finances.
In the three days’ Entrepreneurial Development Workshop, the resource persons guided the students on various aspects of entrepreneurial qualities in detail which are helpful and needed to become successful entrepreneurs in the present competitive world. During valedictory programme of the workshop, all the resource persons viz., Mr. Mahesh Hegde, Ms. Swayamprabha, Ms. Maitreyi Hegde and Mr. Ravi Kumar expressed their happiness about students involvement and interest. Students, in their feedback, expressed deep sense of gratitude and happiness for such a wonderful and timely workshop and overwhelmed with the knowledge and guidance received from resource persons and the nodal officers. The students submitted their ideas in the form of project proposals during valedictory programme. Around 15 such projects were received by dean (Agri) and the students were asked to be in touch with resource persons and the nodal officers to fine tune the ideas to present in upcoming Ideathon workshop.
Dr. M. D. Patil, Nodal Officer, ICAR-NAHEP-IDP-UASD, College of Agriculture, Vijayapur moderated the entire workshop and gave brief details on the upcoming events under IDP and future plans. He extended heartfelt thanks to all the resource persons and the students for making the event a grand success. The workshop was concluded with group photos.
